Woman Confident Hiring Manager Will Reach Back Out Any Second Now

SAVANNAH, GA - Shortly after submitting her resume for a marketing analyst position at a large retail company, recent college graduate Nora Grundleson sat eagerly at her computer, waiting for a prompt response from the hiring manager.

“Gee, I can’t wait for them to respond,” Grundleson said to herself. “If they’re good at their jobs, they’ll email me back any second now to let me know whether they’d like to interview me or if they’ve filled the position. I trust them.”

As the minutes passed, Grundleson couldn’t help but think of a conversation she had with a friend who had graduated a few years earlier, in which the friend warned her about how brutal the job market is and suggested she give up hope of ever getting a job.

As doubt began to creep in, Grundleson naively dismissed her friend’s warnings as nonsense and hit refresh on her inbox one more time.

“How could they not reach out?” she said, trying to talk herself out of spiraling. “I’m cute, funny, and super unique. I just hope the boss likes horses and scrapbooking as much as I do.”

At press time, Grundleson reportedly leapt out of her chair when she received a new email but quickly lost hope when she realized it was another promotional email from Old Navy.
